Trent Frederic dealt to Oilers in three-team deal

On Tuesday afternoon, the Bruins began reshaping their roster. They dealt Trent Frederic and Max Jones to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Max Wanner, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick. The New Jersey Devils received Shane LaChance from Edmonton for facilitating the deal, retaining 50 percent of Frederic's salary.

During his NHL career, Frederic, a former first-round pick, has scored 55 goals in 337 games. He has also dished out 54 assists and set a career-high in points last season with 40. However, the St.Louis native has struggled to replicate that success this year, with 15 points in 57 games.

While Frederic has emerged as a solid depth piece, he is set to become a free agent this summer. He is currently week-to-week with an upper-body injury. With this move, the Bruins have added more draft capital and an intriguing player in Wanner.

The Oilers selected Wanner in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Since then, he has appeared in 90 AHL games and recorded 19 points. While he is in the midst of a down year, Wanner provides the Bruins with more organizational depth.

With the NHL trade deadline quickly approaching, the Bruins will be popular in the rumor mill. Some names that have already popped up are Morgan Geekie, Brandon Carlo, Charlie Coyle, and Pavel Zacha. Any of those pieces should be able to net draft picks as the Bruins look to add more young talent.

If they hold onto the second-round pick, the Bruins will pick in the second round of the NHL Draft for the first time since 2022.
