Pirates prospect Mitch Jebb enters 2024 campaign with high expectations

After being selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Mitch Jebb proved to be a hits machine. The Michigan State product sprayed the ball all over the field while playing 34 games for the Bradenton Marauders. As a result, he enters his first full professional season with high expectations.

In his first taste of minor league baseball last year, Jebb posted a .297 batting average in 134 plate appearances. While Jebb didn't show a lot of power, he drew 17 walks and only struck out 11 times. As he did in college, the Saginaw native provided a spark whenever he stepped in the batters box.

Additionally, Jebb was solid defensively while splitting time between shortstop and second. In 271 innings of work in the field, the 2023 draftee only committed five errors and turned eight double plays. He also recorded 70 assists, with 40 of them coming at second.

While Webb has played less than 50 games in the minors, his success is no surprise. He has hit at every level, including the Cape Cod League, where he hit .356 during his sophomore year. With his ability to play multiple positions, he could be a valuable piece for the Pirates.

As the 2024 campaign quickly approaches, Jebb is ranked as the Pirates 11th-best prospect by MLB.com. If he continues to hit close to .300, that should change as he moves closer to the majors.

Although the Pirates have a lot of talented infield prospects, Jebb could set himself apart this season if he continues to get on base and put the ball in play.
